Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Albany Man Receives 5 Years for Assaulting Police Officer ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that JARQUELL WILLIAMS, 23, of Albany, NY, was sentenced to 5 years in prison and 5 years post release supervision for Assault in the Second Degree, a Class “D” Violent felony, and Resisting Arrest, a Class “A” Misdemeanor, by the Honorable Judge Dan Lamont. On June 25, 2009, WILLIAMS was found guilty of both charges after a jury trial. “The hardworking men and women who protect our streets day and night deserve the respect and cooperation of every citizen,” commented Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares. “When there is a deliberate attempt to harm or prevent law enforcement from doing their job, I will ensure that those offenders are prosecuted to the full extent of the law for their actions.” On the night of January 1, 2009 WILLIAMS was being taken into custody for a suspected burglary charge when he attempted to flee. He was apprehended by the officers in the vacant lot of 302 2nd Street where he continued to resist arrest and elbow an officer in the face.
