Soares announces Quick Response Team

ALBANY, NY –  District Attorney P. David Soares has announced the formation of QRT -- Quick Response Teams, which will be fully staffed and operational on Primary Day, Tuesday, September 12, 2006 and Election Day, November 10th, 2006.

In previous elections in Albany County, the District Attorney’s Office received delayed reports of allegations of misconduct in the election process.  Some of the allegations were considered criminal violations of the election law.  Other allegations were more appropriate for the civil courts.

The County Board of Elections has agreed to have QRT at polling places and at the Board of Elections throughout the day.  The QRT will rapidly respond to allegations of criminal violations of the election law.

The responsibility of QRT will be there to observe the election process and be a visible presence. QRT will gather information if there are allegations of election law violations and help facilitate the reporting of alleged misconduct to the Albany County Sheriff’s Department and the County Board of Elections.

The Hotline will be set up and lead by the Public Integrity Unity, Assistant District Attorneys and Investigators  within the Office of the District Attorney.
