Possessed a Toy Gun and sentenced on Armed Violent Felony

ALBANY, NY –District Attorney P. David Soares announced the sentencing of THOMAS LAFORE, 20, of 2 Vantassel Ct., Loudonville, NY to Manslaughter in the 2nd Degree, a class “C” Felony and one (1) count of DWI, by the Honorable Stephen Herrick.  LAFORE received 2 1/3- 7 years on the Manslaughter Charge and One (1) Year on DWI.

On February 26, 2006, LAFORE, after consuming a significant amount of alcohol, lost control of his 2001 Nissan Pathfinder and crashed into a tree at 132 Lincoln Avenue in the Town of Colonie, the impact caused the death of his passenger and friend, Anson Breen of Albany, NY.

District Attorney Soares commented after the sentencing, “I cannot stress enough that the outcome is never good when one mixes drinking and driving. In this instance Anson Breen, in the prime of his life, was killed.  The driver, a young man who made two poor choices, by drinking excessively and then operating a motor vehicle.  Mr. Breen’s death could have easily been avoided.”

In July, the District Attorney’s Office announced that LAFORE, had violated his release under the supervision of probation agreement, by being witnessed drinking beer at the Alive At Five Series in downtown Albany.  Judge Herrick revoked the Defendant’s Bail and he was remanded to Albany County Jail.
