Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Major Drug Distributor Gets 8 ALBANY , NY – District Attorney Soares announced that a major upstate distributor of crack cocaine, ROBERT L. CLARKE, 34, of 400 Central Avenue , Albany , NY , was sentenced today to 8 years by the Honorable Stephen W. Herrick. CLARKE pled guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3 rd Degree on July 27, 2005 . CLARKE was arrested during a warranted search of CLARKE’s 400 Central Avenue apartment by the Community Response Unit of the Albany Police Department. The search warrant resulted from an investigation by a team including the APD along with the Gloversville Police Department, the Department of Parole and the District Attorney’s Street Crimes Bureau. At the crime scene, the APD recovered 4.9 ounces of crack cocaine and six weapons including four shotguns, a rifle and a semi-automatic 9 millimeter handgun. Soares noted that CLARKE is a career drug dealer with a distribution network ranging from New York City to Gloversville . This will be CLARKE’s fifth drug related conviction. He has been in and out of jail constantly since 1988. “I charged my Street Crimes Bureau with the goal of getting the major drug distributors and today we got one,” Soares said. “These investigations are always more time consuming, more difficult, and more expensive, but today shows that the extra effort is worth it. If we are to be successful convicting drug dealers with large, multi-jurisdictional distribution networks, we are going to have to work cooperatively with our colleagues from other districts. I applaud the efforts of the CRU, the Gloversville Police Department, Parole, and my staff for their successful investigation and prosecution of ROBERT CLARKE,” Soares added. CLARKE faces additional charges in Fulton County . Back to Press Releases For further information contact: Richard Arthur
