Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Albert Jackson A/K/A Jackpot Gets Up To 8 Years for Cocaine Dealing ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that ALBERT JACKSON, 30, of Sheridan Avenue , Albany , NY pled guilty to one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2 nd Degree before the Honorable Stephen W. Herrick. He faces a determinate sentence of up to 8 years along with 5 years of Post Release Supervision. Seven additional co-conspirators pled guilty to related drug charges and each faces a one year sentence. The guilty pleas resulted from fast police work by the Community Response Unit of the Albany Police Force. Early in the morning of the 8 th day of March, 2005, members of the CRU received a tip that a large amount of cocaine had been sighted in JACKSON ’s basement apartment on 478 Clinton Avenue . The CRU obtained a search warrant and immediately raided the apartment. They found over twenty ounces of Cocaine, 5 ounces of Marijuana along with the typical drug dealing paraphernalia including baggies, scales, etc. They also found a loaded Inter Arms Firestar Plus 9 millimeter handgun, however since the ownership of the gun could not be established, a gun possession charge was impossible to prosecute. When the CRU raided the apartment, JACKSON was not to be found. He wasn’t located by the Police until May 3 rd. He pled to the possession charge when confronted with evidence including at least two eye witness accounts that he had been in the apartment during the morning of the raid, cell phone records, the fact that he had personal effects in the apartments, and the fact that his name was on the apartment lease. DA Soares was pleased with the outcome of the case. “Eight years is a significant amount of time for this case. This prosecution eliminated an entire gang of drug dealers ranging from Albany to Rochester . It also got a loaded automatic handgun off the streets. But let’s not kid ourselves; there are others out there just waiting to take over JACKPOT’s business. The real challenge is strengthening the community so that this void in the market is never filled”, he said. Sentencing is scheduled for November 7, 2005 .
