Cobleskill Man Found Guilty of Key Bank Robbery

ALBANY, NY – Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that RANDOLPH MASON, 41, of Cobleskill, NY, was found guilty of (1) count of Robbery in the First Degree, a Class “B” Violent Felony, and (2) counts of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, a Class “E” Felony, in front of the Honorable Judge Dan Lamont.

The first Grand Larceny charge stems from April 7 th, 2009, when, at approximately 1:45p.m., at Colonie Center, MASON stole the purse of a senior citizen victim. About an hour and forty-five minutes later, at approximately 3:31p.m., MASON robbed the Key Bank located at 19 Corporate Woods Boulevard. MASON grabbed a Key Bank employee, pulled her across the counter, pushed a bladed letter opener into the woman’s chest and demanded money from her. When witnesses were able to provide police with the description of MASON and the car used to flee the scene, he was taken into custody. During the trial, witnesses could not recall MASON using a weapon during the robbery. However, video footage from the bank and a jailhouse recording confirmed that MASON did brandish the bladed letter opener.

MASON faces up to 25 years in prison when sentenced on December 4 th, 2009.

Assistant District Attorney Brad Sherman and Assistant District Attorney Linda Griggs handled the prosecution of the case.
