Albany Burglary Verdict Faces 45 Years to Life

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced the verdict in the trial of MAURICE BROWN a/k/a CHEEBA, 45, of 520 Clinton Avenue, Albany, NY. BROWN was found guilty on (3) counts of Burglary in the 2nd Degree, (3) counts of Petit Larceny, a class "A" Misdemeanor after a trial before the Honorable Roger McDonough.

The indictment alleged that BROWN during the months of March and April 2006, broke into several homes with the intent of stealing property. BROWN with MARTY JONES, 19 of Albany, NY were indicted on a series of charges that involved 11 Albany homes that were burglarized throughout the Western Avenue and Buckingham Lake Neighborhoods. The two defendants stole currency, cameras, family jewelry, laptops, and assorted personal property.

MARTY JONES will be sentenced this Friday to 15 years in Prison. Sentencing for MAURICE BROWN is scheduled for December 18, 2006. BROWN faces 45 years to Life.

Soares praised the work of his staff on securing the guilty verdict and the APD for making their good arrest. "These two men violated the privacy and the lives of many families. It is our hope that these homeowners can get back to their trick or treating without having to worry about returning to their home to find it burglarized." He continued, "As for anyone considering burglary as a career, they should look to both Mr. BROWN and Mr. JONES as examples of what happens to people who burglarize homes in Albany County."

ADA Kathleen Boland from the Major Crimes Unit handled this case.
