Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares ALBANY, NY –District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that DERRICK JENNINGS, 39, of 7 Lark Street, Albany, NY was sentenced today on two (2) counts of Assault in the 1st Degree. On October 28th, 2005, at approximately 7:15 PM at 180 Washington Avenue Extension, in the City of Albany, NY, JENNINGS approached his ex-girl friend as she sat in her car after leaving her job at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home. He asked to talk and she agreed. He then entered her car and tried to persuade her not to break up with him. When she insisted, he slashed her face, arms and legs, permanently disfiguring her. He then stole her cell phone and fled. JENNINGS , the father of 26 children was returned to Albany by the US Marshall Service after he was arrested in New Jersey for assaulting another girlfriend. DA Soares insisted that his office would seek a lengthy sentence for this defendant. "Derrick Jennings was a clear and present danger to society. This was an attack of extraordinary cruelty and viciousness, he deserves all the time that the law allows," DA Soares said.
