Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares ALBANY, NY –District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that ALBERT COOKS, 33 of 229 Colonie Street, Albany, NY has plead to Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, a Class A-1 Felony in front of Judge Thomas A. Breslin. By entering the plea, COOKS will be sentenced to 17 years in state prison. On May 3, 2006, at 116 Quail Street, Albany, NY, COOKS did knowingly sell and distribute more than 2 ounces/52 grams of Cocaine. COOKS is considered to be one the biggest transporters from New York City to the Albany Area. COOKS would use young women from the area to be "mules", and then he would distribute the drugs onto the streets. District Attorney Soares was satisfied with the long sentence and stated today, "COOKS is exactly the sort of drug dealer for whom stiff sentences were written. He transported narcotics along the interstate, he exploited young people who were in his employ and didn't hesitate to use violence." Soares continued, "Mr. COOKS and his cohorts were brought down thanks in part to the long-term investigation strategy employed by law enforcement. 17 years is a good return on the investment made by law enforcement" COOKS will be sentenced on November 30, 2006. This case was handled by Assistant District Attorney, Francisco Calderon of the Street Crimes Unit. For further information contact: Rachel McEneny
