Hany Sadek Pleads to Grand Larceny

ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that HANY SADEK, 57, of 298 Hudson Avenue , Albany , NY pled guilty to one count of Grand Larceny in the 3 rd Degreee before the Honorable Stephen W. Herrick. He faces a term of 1 ½ to 4 years. Sentencing is scheduled for January 3, 2006 .

In pleading guilty, SADEK admitted to fraudulently stealing over $130,000 in life insurance proceeds and other assets from the estate of an Egyptian women for which he was acting as an executor.

DA Soares said that it was a difficult but ultimately satisfying prosecution. “SADEK mistakenly believed that since his victim was female and foreign, he could use the assets of the estate for his own benefit. He was wrong. The victim, the deceased’s sister, lodged a complaint with the Colonie Police which was forwarded to our Office. We then performed an investigation. When SADEK was confronted with the evidence, he had little choice but to take the plea,” Soares said.

“The key in this case was that the beneficiary of the estate lodged the complaint. It is vitally important that anyone with any sort of an estate make sure that there are multiple parties who are aware of the contents of the will so that a fraudulent estate lawyer can’t walk away with the assets without anyone knowing. We need to get this message out,” Soares added.
