"Big Homie" Gets 8 For Drugs

ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced that TAFARI W. CAMPBELL, 29, aka “Big Homie” was sentenced today by the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin to 8 years with three years of post release supervision.

CAMPBELL had pled guilty on August 25, 2005 to one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3 rd Degree.

CAMPBELL had long been the object of an ongoing investigation by the Community Response Unit of the Albany Police Department. After effecting two controlled buys, the CRU executed a search warrant. Upon entering CAMPBELLS ’s apartment, APD Officers found 7.2 ounces of crack cocaine packaged for resale, one fully loaded T 200 Talon 9mm handgun with its serial number defaced, a small quantity of marijuana, and a scale to be used in the weighing and packaging of crack cocaine.

DA Soares applauded the work of the Community Response Unit. “These are the kinds of investigations that are required to get significant drug dealers off the street. Big Homie is going to be calling the Department of Corrections home for the next 8 years and we are all grateful for that,” he said.

The case was interpreted by the Street Crimes Bureau.
