Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Michael Landry – Rapist - Gets 20 ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced that MICHAEL LANDRY, 31, of 14 Standish Place , Cohoes , NY was sentenced today to 20 years with 5 years of Post Release Supervision by the Honorable Stephen W. Herrick. LANDRY pled guilty to one count of Attempted Rape in the First Degree and one count of Burglary in the 1 st degree on August 11, 2005 . LANDRY admitted his guilty in the early phases of his trial following opening arguments and the presentation of the evidence by the people. In pleading guilty, LANDRY admitted to climbing in the victim’s bathroom window on May 18, 2004 , and attempting to rape his victim at knifepoint. The victim fought back and was able to turn the knife on the defendant who then fled the scene. LANDRY was arrested on May 20, 2004 on the basis of top-notch detective work by investigators from the Cohoes Police Department. These investigators found that LANDRY had committed a burglary with similar pattern of behavior in the Town of Colonie . Following his arrest, LANDRY was tied to the crime scene by DNA evidence which was found on the knife at the scene. DA Soares said that this case was solved through good old-fashioned detective work supported by modern forensic science. “This case only supports the argument that we need to expand the DNA database to reduce the chance that suspects such as LANDRY could possibly evade justice. If not for the excellent work of the Cohoes PD, LANDRY might not have been arrested and then we wouldn’t have had his DNA sample to match with the blood found at the scene,” he said.
