Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Martin Higgins Pleads to Murder Faces 20 to Life ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced that Martin Thomas Higgins, 42, of 761 Myrtle Avenue , Albany , NY pled guilty to one count of Murder in the 2 nd Degree before the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin. He faces a term in State Prison of 20 years to life. Sentencing is scheduled for December 14, 2005 . The Indictment alleges that at 5:00 AM on the morning of May 13, 2005 , HIGGINS repeatedly shot HVCC student Andrew Vanwie in the head using a 22 caliber rifle causing his death during a dispute over a drug sale. DA Soares noted that the drug world is fraught with danger. “This young victim made a conscious choice to engage in this trade and he met with a tragic end.
