Brooklyn Man Arraigned for October Home Invasion

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that MICHAEL A. MCGORMAN, 22, of Brooklyn, NY, was arraigned on (2) counts of  Burglary in the Second Degree, a Class “ B” Felony , (1) count of  Attempted Robbery in the First Degree, a Class “C” Felony, (1) count of  Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree, a Class “D” Felony, (1) count of  Assault in the Second Degree, a Class “D” Felony, (1) count of  Unlawful Imprisonment in the First Degree, a Class “E” Felony and (1) count of  Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree, a Class “A” Misdemeanor in front of the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin.

The indictment alleges that on October 3, 2008, at 3:30 A.M,. at Pulver Avenue in the Village of Ravena, MICHAEL MCGORMAN broke into a home by smashing thorough a glass door in an attempt to steal money from the victim. MCGORMAN tied up the victim in his bedroom while demanding money. A downstairs tenant heard the commotion and found MCGORMAN in the upstairs apartment. MCGORMAN struggled with the tenant and then fled when the victim was able to untie himself and break a wooden chair over MCGORMAN’s back.  MCGORMAN was apprehended later that day by a New York State Trooper and DNA found on his clothing linked him to the crime scene.

MCGORMAN pleaded not guilty and was remanded into the custody of the Albany County Sherriff. Bail was set at $100,000.

MCGORMAN faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of the charges.
