Office of the District Attorney ALBANY COUNTY HAS HAD OF KENNETH THOMAS
Albany Man Sentenced to 22 Years for Attempted Murder ALBANY, NY - District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that KENNETH THOMAS, 22, of Troy N.Y., was sentenced to 22 years in prison and 5 years post release supervision by the Honorable Thomas Breslin. “I would like to commend the Cohoes Police Department and Bureau Chief Bruce Lennard for presenting such a compelling case that the defendant pled guilty before even beginning to present his defense to the jury,” commented DA Soares. “In this instance, an argument at a bar escalated into a situation where someone almost lost their life. Acts of senseless violence have caused far too much damage in our communities and I hope the message is being heard loud and clear - if you carry a gun in Albany County, or if you use a gun in Albany County, you will go to state prison.” On January 5, 2008 at approximately 4:00 A.M. at the Matchbox Bar and Grill in the City of Cohoes, KENNETH THOMAS attempted to cause the death of a male victim by shooting him with a handgun. After two days of trial in September, THOMAS pled guilty to (1) count of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a Class “B” Violent Felony. Major Offense Bureau Chief Bruce Lennard handled the prosecution of the case. If you have information about an illegal handgun in Albany County, please call the ENOUGH Hotline at ###
