Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that HASHIM BURNELL, 21, of Mountainview Terrace, Latham, NY was sentenced today to Life without Parole plus (25) years for the shooting death of Todd Pianowski and the first degree robbery of Lauren Parker. A Jury found that on the 5th Day of May, 2005, BURNELL entered the apartment 303 at 1702 Western Avenue in the Town of Guilderland with the intent to commit robbery and in the course of that robbery shot Todd Pianowski with a handgun once in the heart and once on the head causing his death. He was found guilty on (1) count of Murder in the 1st Degree and (3) counts of Robbery in the 1st Degree. This was prosecuted by Bruce Lennard, Assistant District Attorney in the Major Crimes Unit. DA Soares wanted to point to the fine prosecution by Mr. Lennard. "Bruce Lennard did an exceptional job prosecuting this case on behalf of the People of Albany County. Hashim Burnell took the life of a young man last year. He was prosecuted and held accountable for his terrible crime. A young man has lost his life and a young woman was terrorized in her own home. Burnell's actions were senseless. It is our hope that this sentence will deter our youth from engaging in these violent and senseless acts." For further information contact: Rachel McEneny
