SOARES EQUIPS NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that he will provide equipment to the Lansing Street Neighborhood Watch Program in Cohoes.

Soares will provide high visibility T shirts and walkie-talkies. “Neighborhood Watch programs are the front line in the fight against crime. By providing local eyes and ears they can patrol and monitor the community in ways that law enforcement never can. Cohoes is blessed by having the Lansing Street Neighborhood Watch Program which is one of the finest neighborhood watch programs in Albany County. It is a model that works. Today I am using the proceeds of the drug asset forfeiture account to provide the equipment that this program needs to become even more effective over time,” Soares said. “By using asset forfeiture funds in this way, I want to prove that crime does pay – it pays for the fight against crime,” he added.

Mayor John T. McDonald III added, “It is a pleasure to see the Lansing Street Neighborhood Watch be recognized for the good work that have done and continue to do.  Community policing is founded on the sound principle of partnership between the residents and the Police Department.  Recognition by District Attorney David Soares reaffirms the importance of this relationship and is reflected in the continued reduction of crime in our community.”
