Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Stephen Murphy Sentenced ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that STEPHEN K. MURPHY, 19, of 1030 Crane Street, Schenectady, NY was sentenced by the Honorable Joseph C. Teresi to 21 years in prison and 5 years of post release supervision. MURPHY pled guilty to Manslaughter in the 1 st degree on September 21, 2005. MURPHY had been arrested on September 12, 2004 after giving a statement in which he admitted to having committed Arson, Robbery, Grand Larceny and having the Intention to Murder Richard Agony and then having set the trailer, in which Agony’s body was lying, ablaze. The indictment alleged that on the night of September 11, 2004 at the Thompson Lake Camp Ground MURPHY stabbed the victim and ultimately killed him by wrapping a bungee cord around the victim’s neck and strangling him to death. MURPHY then lit the camper in which the body lay on fire The camper was completely consumed in the subsequent fire. After the murder, MURPHY took the victim’s money and used it to purchase a number of items including a train ticket to Florida. MURPHY faces a sentence of 21 years in State prison with five years of Post Release Supervision. Sentencing is scheduled for 11/10/05 at 9:00 AM before the Honorable Joseph C. Teresi.
