Quick Response Teams Announced

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that his Public Integrity Unit had formed a set of Quick Response Teams to provide on the spot investigations of allegations of criminal violations of the election law.

“The right to vote is one of our most precious rights.” DA Soares said. “And the right to vote means the right to have all votes counted equally and fairly without undue influence or intervention,” he added.

The Quick Response Teams will each consist of an investigator and an ADA. They will all be connected with mobile communications and they will be randomly visiting polling places throughout the county and throughout the day. They will be working closely with the Board of Elections and will receive instant notification of any allegations of impropriety or illegal behavior. “Without good, solid evidence, election fraud cases are very difficult to prosecute,” Soares said. “The purpose of these teams will be to quickly visit any site of an alleged crime to gather evidence before it is lost or destroyed,” he added.

“Hopefully, the mere presence of these teams will encourage all participants to bend over backwards to ensure that both the letter and the spirit of the law is scrupulously observed. We hope that isn’t even the appearance of impropriety. We’re looking forward to a dull day.”

Anyone wishing to report a possible case of election law violations should contact the Board of Elections at 487 5060.
