Albany Man Gets 8 ½ Years For Burglary ALBANY , NY - District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that MATTHEW HOUCK, 29, of, Watervliet, NY, was sentenced to 8 ½ years in prison. In March, HOUCK pled guilty to (1) count of Burglary in the First Degree, a Class “ B ” Violent Felony. On Thursday July 5, 2007 at 5:13 A.M., Watervliet Police responded to a 911 call for a domestic dispute. The victim stated that she heard a noise outside her window and when she got up, she found HOUCK had climbed through her window. The victim told HOUCK to leave and then ran to call 911. HOUCK followed her, pushed her onto a bed, took the phone and would not let her leave the room. HOUCK was looking for his ex-girlfriend, the cousin of the victim, who he believed was in the home. HOUCK’s ex-girlfriend, and the mother of their two children, was in another bedroom hiding because HOUCK had beaten her up in the past. When HOUCK couldn’t locate his ex-girlfriend, he attempted to take another child from the home, and the victim struggled with HOUCK to prevent him from doing so and was injured. HOUCK entered the upstairs apartment in pursuit of his ex-girlfriend but when confronted by the resident, he left the home with the child. The neighbor was able to retrieve the child from HOUCK before HOUCK fled the scene in his ex-girlfriends stolen vehicle. HOUCK then struck another vehicle as he was fleeing the scene.
