‘Operation Speeding Bullet’ Takes Criminal and Gun Off Street in 18 Days ALBANY , NY – Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that RYAN CHERRY, 21, of Bronx, NY was sentenced to 2 years in prison with 2 years post release supervision. In March, CHERRY pled guilty to (1) count of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2 nd Degree in front of the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin. On March 2, 2008 at 4:31 A.M., on I-90 Eastbound, a vehicle was pulled over for driving erratically. Upon interviewing the driver, he indicated he had been drinking. After failing a field sobriety test, he was placed under arrest. In the vehicle were three additional occupants. State Police performed an inventory search and recovered a loaded .38 caliber revolver. All occupants were taken into custody. CHERRY, who was a passenger, admitted that the weapon was his. “This is another instance where ‘Operation Speeding Bullet’ made it possible to take this case from arrest to plea bargain in just 18 days, and then from plea to sentence in less than two months. Removing illegal weapons and the people willing to use them is one of the highest priorities of this office and we will continue to aggressively pursue all cases where illegal guns are involved,” commented DA Soares.
