16-Year-Old Sent to State Prison For Gun Possession

ALBANY , NY – Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that SHACREAM MORRIS-CALDWELL, 16, of Green Street, Albany, NY, was sentenced to two years in prison and two years post release supervision by the Honorable Thomas Breslin. In march, MORRIS-CALDWELL to pled guilty to (1) count of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Class “D” Felony.

“Every week this office sends at least one young man to state prison for gun possession, and I have had enough. The arms race that is going on within certain neighborhoods in Albany must come to an end and we must work as a community to take back our streets and our children,” commented DA Soares.

On November 27, 2007 at 10:10 P.M. in the area of 314 Colonie Street, Albany Police Officers were investigating the robbery of a deliveryman. The Officers grabbed MORRIS-CALDWELL to stop him and as he struggled, a firearm fell to the ground. The police recovered a loaded .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

Street Crimes Bureau Chief Francisco Calderon is handling the prosecution of this case.
