Albany Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Drug and Gun Possession ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that ANTHONY LEWIS, 47, of Albany, NY, was sentenced to ten years in prison and two years post release supervision by the Honorable Thomas Breslin. On March 11, 2008, LEWIS pled guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class “B” Felony. This is LEWIS’ fifth felony conviction. On October 29, 2007 at or about 11:03 P.M. at First Street and Henry Johnson BLVD, a Parole Officer was conducting after hours visits and observed LEWIS out on the street after curfew. Upon seeing LEWIS, he ordered him to stop, at which point he observed LEWIS discard a sliver object down a sewer drain. Upon apprehending LEWIS, he recovered 71 grams of rock and powder cocaine. The next morning, OGS drained the water from the sewer drain and a silver loaded .25 caliber firearm was recovered. “Everyday we count on our partners in public safety to assist us in maintaining order and holding criminals accountable for their actions, this includes not only police agencies and fire departments, but also the New York State Divisions of Parole and Probation. Parole Officer Staszac should be commended for his commitment and diligence for going beyond just doing his job and taking drugs, a gun and the individual willing to use that gun off our streets for a very long time,” commented DA Soares.
