Internet Predator Caught in NYSP Online Sting Operation Sent to Prison ALBANY , NY - District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that JOSEPH LANSING, 50, of Colonie, NY, was sentenced to 1 ½ years in prison and ten years post release supervision by the Honorable Thomas Breslin. In March, LANSING pled guilty to (1) count of Attempted Disseminating Indecent Materials to Minors in the First degree, a Class “ E ” Felony. On January 25, 2008, LANSING did engage in many sexual conversations on the Internet with a person whom he believed to be a thirteen year old. LANSING was actually communicating with a member of the New York State Police. LANSING also went to a local McDonalds to meet this ‘child’ for the purpose of engaging in sexual acts. “Child predators previously associated with trench coats in dark corners now have direct access into the living rooms and bedrooms of every child connected to the Internet. In this case, the online conversations are troubling, but the willingness of this defendant to follow through with his intentions by arranging a meeting with her is even more disturbing. As a community we must monitor our children’s use of the Internet, and I promise to aggressively pursue these criminals who take advantage of our youth and hold them accountable for their egregious actions,” commented DA Soares ADA Christina Calabrese handled the prosecution of the case.
