Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares McKnight Pleads Not Guilty to 12 Count Indictment ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced the arraignment of PETER MCKNIGHT, 45, of Colorado, on twelve counts including: (2) counts of Attempted Murder in the 2nd Degree, (2) counts of Assault in the 1st Degree, (2) Counts of Attempted Assault in the 1st Degree, (2) counts of Criminal Use of a Firearm in the 1st Degree, (2) counts of Criminal Use of a Firearm in the 2nd Degree and (2) counts of Burglary in the 1st Degree. McKnight plead not guilty to all twelve counts and was remanded into the custody of the Albany County Sheriff. Due to the extremely violent and premeditated nature of this crime, as well as the potential for future violence, ADA Harris petitioned the court to deny any future bail applications. The indictment alleges that on April 27, 2007 at about 1:37 a.m. on Deerfield Drive in the City of Cohoes, County of Albany, PETER MCKNIGHT, possessing a loaded weapon, broke into and entered the dwelling of his estranged wife by smashing out a sliding glass door. MCKNIGHT attempted to cause serious injury and death to two victims inside the home by shooting one victim in the arm and the other in the back and spine. After fleeing from the scene, MCKNIGHT lead police on a manhunt and was caught in Saratoga County on the evening of April 28, 2007. ADA Mark Harris from the Special Victims Unit is handling the prosecution of this case.
