Maye Pleads Guilty, Faces 7 Years for Robbery

ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that SHAMAR MAYE, 25, of Albany, NY, pleaded guilty to one count of Robbery in the 2nd Degree in front of the Honorable Stephen W. Herrick. MAYE now faces no less than 5 years and no more than 7 years in prison, plus a 5-year period of post release supervision.

On October 11, 2006 at approximately 10:10 P.M., at 172 Quail Street in the City of Albany, MAYE and two others allegedly attacked a victim in front of his apartment building and beat him with a blunt object while robbing him. The beating left the victim with a disfiguring complex facial laceration above the left eye, a closed head injury, and a swollen and blackened left eye.

Two suspects were apprehended by police that night based upon descriptions given by the victim. Lester Lolley and Darryl Ford were subsequently indicted by an Albany County grand jury for Robbery in the 1st Degree, Assault in the 1st Degree, and other counts. A second indictment was obtained against Darryl Ford on March 30, 2007, charging him with forging a false confession in the name of Lester Lolley and submitting the allegedly false confession to Judge Herrick 's chambers in an effort to exonerate himself. Upon learning of the allegedly false confession, Lester Lolley admitted to his role in the crimes, pleaded guilty to Robbery in the 2nd Degree. MAYE was later identified as the third assailant and then arrested on March 23, 2007.

Darryl Ford now faces a total of 11 counts including: (1) count of Forgery in the 2nd Degree, (2) counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence, (2) counts of Robbery in the 1st Degree, (2) counts of Robbery in the 2nd Degree; (2) counts of Assault in the 1st Degree and (2) counts of Assault in the 2nd Degree. His case remains pending.

ADA Bruce Lennard from the Major Offenses Bureau handled the prosecution of this case.

Both MAYE and Lolley will be sentenced after the case against Darryl Ford is complete.
