Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Indictment of David A Hollenbeck for Burglary and Grand Larceny
ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced the indictment of DAVID A. HOLLENBECK, 44, of 1939 7 th Avenue, Watervliet, NY on five counts of Burglary in the Second Degree and one count of Grand Larceny in Fourth Degree. The Indictments allege that between November 8 th, 2004 and April 15, 2005, HOLLENBECK committed a series of burglaries in which he broke into various different houses in Colonie and Guilderland to steal jewelry and other items of value including at least one case in which he stole items with a value in excess of $1000. HOLLENBECK was arrested in a McKown Road house on April 15, 2005 after he was spotted by a neighbor breaking a window and entering the dwelling. When the Colonie Police arrived at the scene, HOLLENBECK was seen returning into the house so the officers called in a K-9 unit from SUNY Albany. With the assistance of the K-9 unit, they found HOLLENBECK hiding beneath a bed along with jewelry and a piggy bank. HOLLENBECK subsequently confessed to a series of other break-ins. He remains a suspect in additional break-ins and according to District Attorney Soares, he may well face additional charges. District Attorney Soares praised the alertness of the citizen who placed the 911 call alerting the police. “The combination of an alert citizenry and rapidly responding officers from the Guilderland Police Force broke this case and saved who knows how many others from having their homes invaded,” he said. He also pointed out that this case is an excellent example of interagency cooperation. “This break-in occurred at a time when many detectives from the Guilderland Police Force were investigating the suicide of a middle aged woman on Zoar Avenue. “This was a case in which the Guilderland Police called for the assistance of the Colonie Police Department who in turn requested assistance from the SUNY K-9 unit along with an officer from the State Police. This is exactly the way the system is supposed to work,” he said. If convicted on all counts, HOLLENBECK faces 75 years in prison. HOLLENBECK will be arraigned before the Honorable Stephen W. Herrick on Tuesday May, 24 th, 2005. Back to Press Releases For further information contact: Richard Arthur
