Internet Predator Caught in NYSP Online Sting Operation ALBANY , NY - District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that JOSEPH LANSING, 50, of Colonie, NY, pled guilty to (1) count of Attempted Disseminating Indecent Materials to Minors in the First degree, a Class “ E ” Felony in front of the Honorable Thomas Breslin. On January 25, 2008, LANSING did engage in many sexual conversations on the Internet with a person whom he believed to be a thirteen year old. LANSING was actually communicating with a member of the New York State Police. LANSING also went to a local McDonalds to meet this ‘child’ for the purpose of engaging in sexual acts. “The dangerous criminals previously associated with the streets, such as child predators and drug dealers, now have direct access into the homes of everyone connected to the Internet. This defendant not only courted what he believed to be a young girl online, but demonstrated his willingness to follow through with his intentions by arranging a meeting with her at McDonalds. As a community we must be vigilant and monitor our children’s use of the Internet, and I promise to aggressively pursue these individuals who take advantage of our youth and hold them accountable for their egregious actions,” commented DA Soares Under the terms of the plea bargain, LANSING faces 1 ½ years in prison and ten years post release supervision when sentenced on May 5, 2008. LANSING was continued on $10,000 bail. ADA Christina Calabrese handled the prosecution of the case. # # # For further information contact: Heather Streeter Orth
