Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares ‘ Pine Hills Burglar’ Sentenced to 36 Years ALBANY, NY – Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that MAURICE BROWN, a/k/a CHEEBA, 45, of 520 Clinton Avenue, Albany, NY has been sentenced to thirty-six years in state prison by the Honorable Roger McDonough. BROWN was found guilty on (3) counts of Burglary in the 2nd Degree and (3) counts of Petit Larceny, a class “A” Misdemeanor after a trial on October 31, 2006. District Attorney Soares praised the hard work of ADA Kathleen Boland from the Major Crimes Unit in securing the guilty verdict and emphasized the importance of this sentencing. “This is a serious sentence for a very serious crime. Burglarizing homes in Albany County will not be tolerated and those considering burglary as a career should take a serious look at the significant sentences received by Maurice Brown and Marty Jones.” During the months of March and April 2006, BROWN broke into several homes with the intent of stealing property. BROWN with MARTY JONES, 19 of Albany, NY were indicted on a series of charges that involved 11 Albany homes that were burglarized throughout the Western Avenue and Buckingham Lake Neighborhoods. The two defendants stole currency, cameras, family jewelry, laptops, and assorted personal property. “This case was solved due to the vigilance of the victims’ neighbors and is a perfect example of how a ‘neighborhood watch’ program should operate.” commented ADA Boland. “Maurice Brown is going away for a long time and the streets of Albany are safer as a result.” MARTY JONES was sentenced December 2, 2006 to 9 years in prison. Now that the sentencing is completed, stolen property recovered during the investigation will be returned to the victims. For further information contact: Heather Streeter Orth
