David Soares announced that KAREN HUGHES, 55, of 155 Williamsburg Court , Albany , NY was sentenced today to six months in jail, 5 years probation, and restitution of $131,000 by the Hon. Thomas J. Breslin. HUGHES pled guilty to one count of Grand Larceny Second Degree on September 9, 2006 . In pleading guilty, HUGHES admitted to having stolen more than $125,000 from the Estate of Agnes Kennedy between March 2003 and December 2004 by diverting money from the estate’s account and converting the money for her own use, the defendant was the executrix of the estate. DA Soares stated today that “Karen Hughes abused the trust invested in her by the court and by the deceased and in so doing, she broke the law. In cases such as these, one of our primary responsibilities is to recover the stolen funds. I am pleased that we have been successful in this regard. I would also like to point out that for a woman who has never seen the inside of a jail cell, six months of incarceration in the Albany County Penitentiary is a significant sentence.” Back to Press Releases For further information contact: Rachel McEneny
