Sentencing for Shaquana Wright

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that the sentencing of Shaquana Wright, 25, of 469 Livingston Avenue, Albany, NY for her plea of guilty to six counts including one Count of Scheme to Defraud in the 1 st Degree, a Class E Felony, four counts of Identity Theft Class D Felonies, and one Count of Money Laundering, a Class D Felony would take place Thursday March 10, 2005 before the Honorable Joseph C. Terisi.

Ms. Wright faces ten years in state prison and restitution of $63,000.

The guilty plea culminated a 30 month long investigation of a partnership including the Albany Police Department, the Anti-Fraud Bureau of the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, United States Postal Inspectors, and the United States Marshals Service. The complaint alleged that between January 2002 and October 2004, the defendant forged checks using false names but real bank account numbers. She then used these checks at various banks and businesses to conduct fraudulent transaction totaling over $50,000.

She had been living at various locations within the City of Albany and had been featured on a broadcast of the Capital District segment of the television show, America’s Most Wanted. Additionally, a close acquaintance had recently been arrested on an unrelated charge and had volunteered information regarding her whereabouts. After learning that investigators had finally tracked her down after a 2 ½ year investigation, Ms. Wright turned herself in.
