Three Arraigned for Horrific Kidnapping and Torture of Albany Woman

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that THOMAS WHITE, a.k.a. “P”, 23, of Troy, ALYSSA M. SPIAK, 18, of Averill Park, and DANIELLA V. GAY, 18, of Bennington, VT, were arraigned on nine counts including; (1) count of Kidnapping in the First Degree, a Class “A-1” Violent Felony, (4) counts of Assault in the First Degree, a Class “B” Violent Felony and (4) counts of Assault in the Second Degree, a Class “D” Violent Felony in front of the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin.

“This is the most violent kidnapping and torture case I have ever witnessed in Albany County,” commented DA Soares. “This lawlessness will not be tolerated and these individuals will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law for their horrific actions.”

The indictment alleges that on May 28, 2009, at approximately 12:01 A.M. at or near 230 Elk Street in the City of Albany, WHITE, SPIAK and GAY abducted a female victim with intent to compel the victim’s brother to deliver a safe and its contents as ransom. Between 12:01 A.M. and 8:00 A.M., WHITE caused serious physical injury to the victim consisting of a deep penetrating wound to the thumb area of her left hand, a deep cut to the top of her right hand, a laceration of her left earlobe, lacerations throughout her head area, legs, feet, neck, back and buttocks, contusions and abrasions on her arms, legs, buttocks and torso, a broken nose, blackened and swollen eyes and a fracture to her left orbital floor by repeatedly punching and kicking the victim, hitting her in the head with an iron, cutting and stabbing her with a knife and pouring salt, bleach and hot sauce into her open wounds.

WHITE pled not guilty on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 and was remanded into the custody of the Albany County Sherriff.

SPIAK and GAY were arraigned yesterday on a sealed indictment and both pled not guilty.

WHITE, SPIAK and GAY face 25 years to life in prison if convicted of the charges.

Major Offense Bureau Chief Bruce Lennard is handling the prosecution of this case.
