Zeigler Gets 1 ½ on Gun Charge

ALBANY, NY –  District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that GERRON ZEIGLER, 19, of 16 Norht Manning Boulevard, Albany, NY was sentenced today to 1 ½ years determinate and two years post release supervision by the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin on a weapons possession charge. The defendant had pled guilty on April 19, 2006 to one count of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree.

ZEIGLER was arrested on February, 15, 2006 at approximately 12:44 AM in the area of 1`33 and 135 Clinton Avenue, Albany, NY when Albany Police Officers, on routine patrol, observed the defendant go onto someone’s property and take a bike. A chase ensured and the suspect was ultimately apprehended. At the time the police did not recover any weapons, however, during a subsequent search the following morning the Officers recovered a sawed off Savage Mark II .22 caliber rifle. When confronted with this evidence, ZEIGLER confessed to the weapons possession charge.

“This is the kind of case, done day in, day out, where our gun prosecutors, working with Officers from the APD, are going to rid this city of guns” said District Attorney Soares.
