COHOES MAN SENTENCED TO 7 YEARS FOR KIDNAPPING ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that MICHAEL MARKS, 51, of FOX HOLLOW SQUARE in COHOES, NY, was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Honorable Stephen Herrick. In May, MARKS pled guilty to (1) count of Attempted Kidnapping in the First Degree, a Class “C” Felony. MARKS admitted that at 8:30 PM on March 1, 2009, at 1 Fox Hollow Square in the City of Cohoes, he abducted and restrained a female victim by duct taping her mouth, threatening to kill her while pointing a loaded gun at her and refusing to allow her to leave. During the abduction, the victim was able to reach a cell phone, call 911 and then throw the phone under the bed. MARKS was then overheard by 911 operators threatening the victim with the gun. The victim was able to escape and run to Police Officers who were in the area responding to the 911 call. Additionally, on March 2, 2009, while released on bail, MARKS threatened to kill two children who were making noise in the apartment complex of a friend he was visiting in Green Island. The plea bargain and current sentence satisfy the charges stemming from the March 1 and March 2 incidents. Assistant District Attorney Shannon Sarfoh of the Special Victims Unit handled the prosecution of this case.
