Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares ‘Villain’ Pleads Faces 7 To 11 ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that a senior member of the street gang Jungle Junkies, LAVAR HOUTMAN, aka ‘Villian’, 18, of 419 Elk Street, Albany, NY pled guilty today to one count of Attempted Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3 rd degree and a Violation of Probation before the Honorable Joseph C. Teresi. HOUTMAN faces a five year determinate sentence on the drug charge and a consecutive two to six years on the Violation of Probation charge. DA Soares said that this arrest and conviction shows that Operation Impact is working to get drug runners and gang members off the streets. He also noted that HOUTMAN was in possession of three guns and a quantity of ammunition at the time of his arrest and that investigations are continuing to locate and arrest HOUTMAN’s firearms supplier. Soares praised the work of the Operation Impact team especially the Community Response Unit of the Albany Police Department who conducted the investigation and made the arrest and Francisco Calderon of the Street Crimes Bureau for swiftly getting the conviction. “HOUTMAN was arrested on June 3 and here he is facing at least seven years and up to eleven years on July 21. This is a message that will reverberate through the street gangs of Albany. This is the work that the Street Crimes Bureau was created to do and we’re doing it,” he said.
