David Soares on the Schumer National Sex Registration Bill ALBANY, NY – In an age in which the global sharing of information is both inexpensive and instantaneous, it is outrageous that local communities still lack access to information regarding known sex offenders living in their midst. This legislative proposal is a smart approach to solving this problem. By creating national standards, reporting requirements and notification procedures, this proposal will patch many of the holes that currently exist in the National Sex Offender registry maintained by the FBI. “It is vital for this system to work that the Federal Government provide the resources needed to develop and maintain it,” said Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares. “We can’t be in a situation where resource constraints on a local level result in known sex offenders slipping through the cracks,” he added.
