Ravena Man Pleads Guilty to Raping Teen he Met on MySpace
ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that SEAN LENNON, 21 of 119 main Street, Ravena, NY pled guilty to (1) count of Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance, a Class “C” Felony and (1) count of Rape in the Third Degree, a Class “E” Felony, in front of the Honorable Thomas A Breslin. Under the terms of the plea bargain, LENNON will serve seven years in prison and ten years post release supervision. He also must to register as a sex offender and have no contact with the victim. During the month of July 2007 in the Village of Ravena, LENNON induced a female less than 16 years old to engage in sexual performance by means of photographing the female while engaging in sexual conduct. LENNON met the 14-year-old victim on MySpace.com. “With the anonymity the internet provides, it is a perfect venue for sexual predators to gain the trust of their victims and social networking websites are very often the starting points for cases that tragically end up in my office. This defendant took advantage of a young girl and we will continue to actively pursue cases against these dangerous criminals as well as work with the community to help educate our youth about the risks associated with online networking websites,” commented DA Soares. ADA Christina Nolan from the Special Victims Unit handled the prosecution of this case. Sentencing for LENNON is scheduled for March 5, 2008. ### For further information contact: Heather Streeter Orth
