Lester Tillman Conviction

ALBANY, NY –  District Attorney P. David Soares today announced the conviction of Lester Tillman, 41, of 154 Delaware Avenue, Troy, NY. on four counts including Burglary, Reckless Endangerment, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the second and third degrees. The jury reached its verdict at 11:00 PM this past Friday night.

The Indictment alleged and jury found that TILLMAN, at about 11:10 AM on August 24 th, 2004, broke into 46 Lexington Avenue in the City of Albany, NY using a 45 caliber handgun to break the glass of the outside door. He then proceeded upstairs and fired three shots into the door of a dwelling of an individual whom he intended to rob and harm. He used one of the shots to smash the lock on the door. When the door held, TILLMAN fled the scene where he was observed by multiple witnesses who alerted the Albany Police Department. He was arrested shortly thereafter and was observed attempting to dispose of the weapon that he had used to fire into the door.

Soares thanked those citizens who aided the Albany Police in their capture of the defendant. He also praised ADA Brian Farley and the Albany Police Department for their work in obtaining the conviction. And he expressed gratitude that another handgun and shooter were removed from the streets.

TILLMAN was convicted in the courtroom of Acting Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Dan Lamont.

Sentencing is scheduled for March 10, 2005. TILLMAN faces 25 years in prison.
