Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Dexter Hooks Faces Up to 12 for Burglary ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that DEXTER HOOKS, a/k/a JOSEPH HOOKS, 50, of 6 South Lake Street , Albany , NY pled guilty to one count of attempted burglary in the 1 st degree before the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin. HOOKS had been accused of attacking a 75 year old woman as she entered her house in an attempt to rob her. This attack took place on September 3, 2005 at approximately 7:20 PM at 373 Hudson Street in the City of Albany, NY. During the course of the attack, HOOKS beat his victim about the face as she was opening the door to her apartment. Once he went through the door, the attack became a burglary with a possible 25 year sentence. HOOKS left the scene carrying the woman’s shopping bag containing a few groceries. HOOKS was promptly arrested by Officers of the Albany Police Department who responded to the scene after a neighbor placed a 911 call. Based on their prompt response, they were able to interview witnesses who had spotted the suspect. HOOKS was arrested carrying the shopping bag and wearing the clothes he wore at the time of the attack. DA Soares credited caring responsible neighbors and good professional police work by Sergeant Patrick Donnelly for the prompt arrest and its subsequent prosecution. At the same time, he expressed his shock at the crime. “Joseph Hooks, who is hiding behind the use of the name of his brother Dexter, is not some kid. He’s a 50 year old man who should know better than to attack a senior to steal a grocery bag. Now he will be facing up to 12 years learning that lesson.” DA Soares said. Sentencing is scheduled for May 2, 2006 . HOOKS faces up to12 years in state prison. Back to Press Releases For further information contact: Richard Arthur
