Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares DANTE TERRELL Arraigned for Attempted Murder Faces up to 15 Years ALBANY , NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced that DANTE LAMONT TERRELL, 31, of 1 Norwood Avenue , Albany NY will be sentenced tomorrow by the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin. TERRELL pleaded guilty on January 4, 2006 to Attempted Assault in the 1 st degree. He faces a sentence of not less than 13 years and not more than 15 years. The indictment alleges that on or about the 6 th day of December 2005 at approximately 7:00 PM , at 1 Norwood Avenue , Albany NY , TERRELL attempted to murder his 17 year old victim by suffocating her with a pillow and slashing her throat and plunging a steak knife into her chest. The victim miraculously survived by playing possum over a period of several hours while TERRELL attempted to hide the crime by dumping her out a window into the back porch. TERRELL was subsequently arrested by Officers of the Albany Police Department when he fled the scene and tried to hide by breaking into a neighbor’s house. DA Soares expressed his admiration for the victim. “In this job you are constantly confronted by unspeakable acts of brutality and cruelty. But you also have the opportunity to come across certain individuals of unbelievable courage and strength. This young woman is not a victim, she’s a survivor and a role model,” he said. The victim is expected to appear at the sentencing bearing the scars of her attack. She intends to read a victim impact statement.
