Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares Juel Lea Gets 7 Years
ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that JUEL R. LEA, 31, of 298 Sheridan Avenue, Albany, NY, was sentenced to seven years in state prison to be followed by five years of post release supervision based on his guilty plea to the charge of attempted criminal sexual act in the 1 st degree. The sentence was imposed by the Honorable Stephen W. Herrick. The indictment alleged that on November 8, 2004, LEA grabbed a woman by the arm, threatened her by claiming to have a knife and tried to force her to commit a sex act. The woman managed to escape and summoned officers from the APD who arrested the defendant. LEA was registered as a sex offender having been convicted of public lewdness in 1996 and rape in the 1 st degree in 1999. While District Attorney Soares was pleased with the sentence, he pointed out that this case supports his argument that Albany County needs a better Sex Offender Management System. “I am committed to bringing this system about. The women and children of Albany County are entitled to it”, he said. Back to Press Releases For further information contact: Richard Arthur
