Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares William Morris Verdict ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced the verdict in the trial of WILLIAM MORRIS, 33, of 176 Clinton Avenue, Albany, NY. MORRIS was found guilty on two counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance after a trial before the Honorable Dan Lamont. The indictment alleged that MORRIS made two separate sales of cocaine. One took place on April 20 th, 2004 at 6:13 at 178-180 Clinton Street in the City of Albany. The second took place on April 27, 2004 at about 5:39 PM, at 158 Orange Street also in the City of Albany. The defendant had his young child in the car with him at the time of the second observed sale. This case is of particular importance because, at the time of his arrest, MORRIS was on probation for a federal drug charge. Based on his long criminal history, MORRIS had been specifically targeted the Albany Police Department. MORRIS was found guilty on both counts and faces 12 ½ to 25 years on each count. Soares praised the work of his staff on securing the guilty verdict and the APD for making a good arrest. “Career criminals, who choose to make their living selling narcotics are going to be taken off the street for a very long time” Soares said. Sentencing is scheduled for April 15, 2005. Back to Press Releases For further information contact: Richard Arthur
