Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares UAlbany Student Steals Identity of Strangers to Obtain Fraudulent Student Loans ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that JESSICA ERAZO, 22, of MANHATTAN, NY, was arraigned on: (6) counts of Forgery in the Second Degree, a Class “D” Felony, (3) counts of Identity Theft in the First Degree, a Class “D” Felony, (1) count of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class “D” Felony, (6) counts of Attempted Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, a Class “E” Felony, (1) count of Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree, a Class “E” Felony, and (1) count of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree, a Class “E” Felony, before the Honorable Dan Lamont. The indictment alleges that between January 1, 2008 and September 1, 2009, as a student at SUNY Albany, ERAZO defrauded three victims by submitting multiple college loan applications using the victim’s names and personal information to act as co-signers. ERAZO’s total loan amount received is alleged to be greater than $19,000 with over $80,000 in unsuccessful loan applications. ERAZO’s Grand Jury indictment was unsealed today at the arraignment.
