Albany Police Officers Cleared in September Shooting

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that an Albany County Grand Jury cleared Albany Police Officers Robert Schunk and Gregory Krikorian of any wrongdoing surrounding the use of deadly physical force against Travis Telemaque on September 16, 2008.

“The members of the Grand Jury listened to the case presented to them today and determined that the use of deadly force by Officers Schunk and Krikorian on that evening was justified. I would like to thank the Grand Jury for their service,” commented DA Soares. “I would also like to remind those carrying guns in our communities that if you point a weapon at a police officer, they are justified in their use of lethal force and you will go to state prison.”

On the evening of September 16, 2008, a robbery victim flagged down Officers Schunk and Krikorian to point out two individuals who allegedly tried to rob the victim at gunpoint. When the Officers approached the two men, they fled. A foot chase ensued and both men were seen carrying handguns.

Travis Telemaque dropped his gun during the chase but was able to recover it and run into an alleyway. When the Officers pursued Telemaque into the alleyway, he turned and pointed his gun at them. Three rounds were fired by the Officers at Telemaque, one hitting him in the groin area.

The other suspect dropped his gun behind a house on Ontario Street and was able to elude police, who are still looking for information about his whereabouts.

Telemaque has been detained by Federal Authorities and all questions should be referred to the U. S. Attorney’s Office, who is prosecuting the case.
