Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that MATHEW ROBINSON, 20, of 20 Regent Street, Albany, NY was found guilty by a jury of his peers late last evening of 9 counts which included: Two counts of Robbery in the First Degree, a class "B" Felony. On December 10th, 2005, ROBINSON, a former employee of Stewart's, entered the Stewart's Shop at 470 Delaware Avenue in Albany, NY with a loaded shotgun, and forcibly stole property from 4 individuals, forcing them all to the ground and demanding them to empty their pockets. ROBINSON forced two additional men from outside the store into the store where he held them at gun point and forced them to hand over their wallets. In a particular vicious attack, ROBINSON struck a female clerk, striking her several times and forcing her to open the store safe. The attack resulted in a broken nose and blackening her eyes. During the trial, ROBINSON did plan this event and purchased the gun at Walmart several weeks earlier. DA Soares noted, "MATHEW ROBINSON was able to purchase a powerful weapon at a retail store to carry out his planned attack and robbery, we toughened penalties for these violent offenders but we have to do more to keep guns out of the hands of the criminals. We thank the jury for their service." ADA Bruce Lennard of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted this case. Sentencing is scheduled for February 8, 2006. For further information contact: Rachel McEneny
