Rampaging Cab Driver ANDREW WOODING

Indicted for Attempted Murder

Faces up to 25 Years

ALBANY, NY –  District Attorney P. David Soares announced that ANDREW M. WOODING, 44, of 1222 Central Avenue, Albany, NY has been indicted on 6 counts including Attempted Murder in the 2 nd Degree, 3 counts of Reckless Endangerment and 2 counts of Assault in the 2 nd Degree. If convicted on all counts, WOODING faces a term of up to 25 years.

He is scheduled for arraignment on Friday December 16, 2005.

The indictment alleges that on or about the 31 st day of October at approximately 8:15 PM, on Menand Road in the Village of Menands, WOODING, displaying a depraved indifference, drove his cab into a group of young people with the intention of striking them with the vehicle and that he did in fact hit one young woman. Additionally he struck another young woman in the face with his fist causing multiple injuries.

The incident emerged out of a dispute over the fare. “I have the greatest respect for cab drivers”, said DA Soares, “They provide a valuable service that has low wages and very often incorporates substantial danger. However, the solution to any dispute, regardless of the merits, is never violence. If you resort to violence, you will be arrested and my Office will prosecute. Mr. WOODING now faces the possibility of spending the next 25 years of his life in state prison.
