Darius Ashley Guilty Sentenced to 25 years to Life

ALBANY, NY –  District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that DARIUS ASHLEY, 29, of 128 Hamilton Street, Albany, NY, was sentenced today to 25 years to life for two counts of Rape in the 1 st Degree and one count of Kidnapping in the 2 nd Degree before the Honorable Thomas A. Breslin.

ASHLEY was arrested on July 14 th, 2005 following the courageous action of his final victim. First, ASHLEY abducted and raped her but then he fell asleep and she contacted the Albany Police Department who arrived and placed ASHLEY under arrest.

In the other two cases, ASHLEY abducted 14 year old girls, wrapped his arm around their necks, covered their faces with a towel and threatened them with a knife. One of those two victims started screaming loudly and managed to escape before being raped. ASHLEY is considered a suspect in additional cases and investigations are continuing.

DA Soares pointed out that the real story here is the power of DNA evidence to close open cases. “This case once again illustrates the importance of fully funding and expanding the State’s DNA database so perpetrators can be removed from the street and victims can be assured that their persecutors are behind bars,” he added.
