Office of the District Attorney P. David Soares John Miles Indicted for Murder 1st ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares announced that John Miles, 35 a homeless drifter arrested in Schenectady Tuesday evening was indicted by an Albany County Grand Jury for four counts of Murder 1 st, four counts of Murder 2 nd, two counts of Burglary 1 st, one count of Burglary 2 nd and two larceny charges. Defendant Miles is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted for any of the Murder 1 st counts. The murder charges resulted from the vicious slayings of John and Mary Elacqua at 802 Washington Ave. in the City of Albany on the 26 th day of October 2005. Mr. Miles was arrested by detectives of the Albany Police Department after an exhaustive, around the clock, three week investigation and manhunt which also involved police from Colonie, Schenectady, SUNYA, Troy, NYS Police and US Marshals’ Violent Felony Fugitive Task Force. DA Soares praised the Albany Police Forensic Unit and Criminal Investigation Unit for utilizing 21 st century science to zero in on the defendant and bring him to justice. DA Soares also commends the civilian witness who came forward to assist the police in their investigation.
