Albany Man Receives 8 Years for Selling Crack Cocaine

ALBANY, NY – District Attorney P. David Soares today announced that IKIEM DAVIS, 21, of Albany, NY, was sentenced to 8 years in prison by the Honorable Stephen W. Herrick.

In June, DAVIS was found guilty after a jury trial of (1) count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class “B” Felony, and (1) count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, a Class “D” Felony.

On February 18 th, 2008, DAVIS attempted to throw away a plastic bag when he was approached by Albany Police Officers on Orange St. After obtaining the bag, the officers discovered it contained 4.2 grams of crack cocaine packaged to be sold.

Because the sentences of the felonies will run concurrently, DAVIS received a total of 8 years in state prison with 3 years post release supervision.

Assistant District Attorney Kurt Haas of the Street Crimes Unit handled the prosecution of this case.
