Curtis Williams Pleads Guilty to Weapons Charge, Faces 4 1/2 years

ALBANY, NY –District Attorney P. David Soares announced today that CURTIS WILLIAMS, 43, of 14 Ida Yarbrough Street, Albany, pled guilty to the top count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree before the Honorable Thomas Breslin. He faces a sentence of 4 ½ years in state prison with 5 years of Post Release Supervision.

In pleading guilty, WILLIAMS admitted to entering Yana’s Bar at 68 Lexington Avenue with an assault rifle. Albany Police entered the establishment to question WILLIAMS, who then discarding the loaded rifle in the bathroom. Police recovered a loaded Sturm Ruger Semi-automatic Mini-14 with 19 Calibre Rounds already loaded. The firearm had a detachable magazine to feed ammunition, a pistol grip and a collapsible stock.

District Attorney Soares noted , “Operation Speeding Bullet is one of the tools that we are using to combat gun violence. We prioritize all gun cases so that defendants in gun crimes are taken off the streets as soon as possible. The message here is simple, ‘Carry weapons illegally here in Albany and you will go to state prison quickly.’”

Sentencing is scheduled for October 4, 2006.
